February 7,2012 “I knock on strangers’ doors. Yepp. And then I offer to buy them a donut. Then we become friends. And I feel completely scared to death but I know that this is what I have to do to bring people to Christ.” - Francis Chan
When Francis was telling us that he approaches strangers in their apartments on a daily basis, I was completely in shock. He does this on a daily basis! I mean, it’s not like this is the first time I’ve ever heard of evangelism, but it’s such a scary thing yet he can do it daily. God Bless him. And then he also shared with us why he moved to San Francisco; he felt that it was his time to move on even after building and leading a church for 17+ years. He didn’t know where God was telling him to go. So he just went. And then he ended up in San Francisco. Why? Because it was one of the most well-known places, as he quoted, and yet it was so dead and lacked God’s presence. He talked a little bit about Detroit and how it, too, is a well-known city. He said that God was calling him to Detroit because he felt there was something he needed to say, and his sermon was aimed for the broken-hearted and the wounded. It was for me and for so many other people in the crowd. & It was probably the most effective sermon I have ever heard. Francis, you are so cool. (:
